Yesterday marked the release of the Fiction River volume Alchemy & Steam, edited by the wonderful Kerrie L. Hughes. I feel privileged for my story Heart to be included in such a fantastic collection, and honored to share the table of contents with writers whose work I love. Many thanks to the series editors, the amazing Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith. Also: Steampunk! So much steampunk! And look at this gorgeous cover.
The inspiration for Heart came from a fever dream on a very blustery January night. When I woke, most of the dream had faded, but it left me with the image of a clockwork heart, the roar of a passing train, and deep sorrow over the death of a beloved man. By the time I’d finished my morning tea, my imagination had hatched a plot.
I loved writing Heart and look forward to hatching further plots set in its darkly magical, underground world.
Alchemy & Steam is on sale in trade paper and electronic form everywhere. Grab your copy and enjoy!
